Johannes Camphuys (registered as Kamphuis in the ''Centraal Bureau voor Genealogie'') (18 July 1634 – 18 July 1695) was the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies from 1684 to 1691.〔Koopmans, Joop ''et al.'' (2007). 〕 Camphuys was born in Haarlem, in the Republic of the United Netherlands. ==Travels== At this point in Japanese history, the sole VOC outpost (or "factory") was situated on Dejima island in the harbor of Nagasaki on the southern island of Kyushu.
